Application process

STEP 1
Determine Eligibility
Sponsor must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident aged 18+ Sponsor must meet minimum income requirements (for some categories) Relationship must qualify (spouse, common-law partner, dependent children, parents/grandparents, etc.)
STEP 2
Choose the Right Program
Spouse/Common-law Partner Sponsorship / Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) / Dependent Children Sponsorship /Other eligible relatives (in specific circumstances);
STEP 3
Submit Application
Sponsor completes sponsorship application (IMM 1344) /Principal applicant completes permanent residence application /Gather required documents (relationship proof, IDs, police certificates, medical exams) /Pay fees ( 1 , 080 C A D f o r s p o u s e s p o n s o r s h i p , 1,080CAD for spousesponsorship,1,050 for parents/grandparents);
STEP 4
Application Processing
IRCC reviews completeness / Sponsor eligibility assessment Principal applicant admissibility assessment Processing times vary (12 months for spouses, 20-24 months for parents);
STEP 5
Final Steps
Receive approval notice / Complete landing process (if outside Canada)/ Become permanent resident.
